Weekend Adventures: Skiing at Bear Valley!

We had an awesome weekend up in the Sierra mountains!  On Friday afternoon we drove about 3 hours to a cabin we rented in the town of Arnold and spent a relaxing evening playing board games and eating dinner.  On Saturday we drove about 30 minutes up the mountain to play in the snow!  The kids and Zac built a tunnel and a slide.

After lunch at the cabin we drove about 5 minutes away to Calaveras Big Trees State Park.  The week after I had rented the cabin, the Pioneer Tree fell down in the park.  This is the famous tree that you could walk through.
So sad!!
We did see the discovery stump and remaining log - amazing!

On Sunday it was time to ski!  Zac and a few buddies from work spent some time this last week machining a ski leg for Zac.  He had not been skiing for 8 years!!  When we got to Bear Valley and all the gear rented, Zac switched out his leg and headed off to the first lift.  The kids and I watched him come down the slope - he looked great!!  Then I dropped the kids off for their ski lessons - 3 hours of lessons with an hour lunch.  They had a great time and learned a lot.  I picked a nice cozy spot in the lodge where I could watch the kids and read on my kindle. =)  Great day for all!  When we picked the kids up from ski school they showed off their new skills to Zac on the magic carpet run and then Zac took each of them on the chair lift for the first time!  They both loved it!
