Weekend Adventures: With Auntie Jess and Zane!!

Look who flew in Saturday evening!!  It's Auntie Jess and Zane!  We've had lots of fun hanging out and even went to Gilroy Gardens after church on Sunday.
snuggle time with Uncle Zac and Kyla
look who fell asleep on me at the end of church!
Zane was growling (SO CUTE!) and attacking Uncle Zac's bald head!
Zane loves his cousins!
We're cute too ;)
They are here until Wednesday afternoon so we have more fun times planned - including Zane's first pumpkin patch!

Weekend Adventures: Foam Run/Walk and Date Night

Last night was spent on some long overdue dates.  Keanan took me to sushi and dessert, while Zac took Kyla to pizza and ice cream!  Great one-on-one time with our favorite boy and girl :)

Some of our yummy sushi!
On Saturday night I did a 5K Foam Glow run/walk with some awesome ladies from church!  There was a definite lack of foam and way too many people to even attempt to run, but we had a good time walking and chatting - and good food at Applebee's afterward!
Under the black lights!

The crazy after party where they were spraying all the foam - we skipped out and went to eat food :)

While I was out with the ladies, Zac and the kids and Josh built a box fort with TONS of cardboard at his work!
The big sections are "two stories" tall!
This week was full of school and landscaping the front yard!  Our front grass died (drought) so the kids and I put in 20 drought resistant, fast growing ground cover plants.  As well as some lavender, rosemary and some other pretty blue thing whose name I can't remember.   The next project is installing my garden in the back yard!
We modeled cells with jello!
The front yard.  We're festive with our corn stalks!
Grow little plants, grow!
We're taking an "off week" again next week while we visit with Auntie Jess and Zane!  Cute pictures to come!

Weekend Adventures: Muir Woods

Yesterday was busier than a normal Sunday for us with church, a missions team meeting for me, and the area Young Life banquet for Zac and I last night.  So, we took our adventure day on Saturday after Kyla's ballet class.  We FINALLY made it to Muir Woods which is just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge.  It a very popular tourist destination, which is why we have avoided it till now.  Most people were leaving when we got there, so it wasn't so bad.

On our way through San Francisco we heard a huge roar.  Looking up, we saw the Blue Angels in formation!  A quick search on Google revealed that it was fleet week - complete with an air show.  The Blue Angels were in the middle of their show as we drove over the Golden Gate - SO COOL!!

Once we got to Muir Woods we went into the visitors center to stamp our new National Park Passport (love this!) and then did a really neat trail that took about an hour or so.  I love the redwoods!!
Kyla with John Muir!
Keanan's hiding behind us.
Cool bridge over a fallen redwood
Keanan the monkey (he must climb everything)
We had dinner at a sketchy restaurant in Mill Valley, which I am pretty sure gave us a mild case of food poisoning on Sunday, fun!  But, overall, it was a great weekend.  :)

Weekend Adventures: Castle Rock Climbing

Yay!  We escaped from the city this weekend!  Yesterday after church we met our friends Gabe and Zoe at Castle Rock State Park for some hiking and climbing.  This is a very popular spot for outdoor rock climbing and we got to see a bunch of people bouldering.  Keanan is excited to tell his coaches on climbing team that he was there :)
Keanan took this picture of the trail.  So beautiful!
On Friday the kids and I went on our first field trip of the year to the Seymour Discovery Center in Santa Cruz.  This is a working marine biology lab that is also open to the public.  We had an excellent tour with a bunch of other homeschool kids and learned a lot about sea otters, gray and blue whales, monk seals, and dolphins.  The lab actually houses a dolphin and a monk seal for research and we got to see them!  The dolphin was so curious and kept popping it's head out of the water to see us.

inside a blue whale skeleton!

We are back to our normal school curriculum this week after a nice break learning different things last week, like history of ballet for Kyla and Lego WeDo building and programming for Keanan.  Happy October!
