Trip to Washington

We head home today after spending the week visiting family and friends.  The main purpose of our visit was two-fold: to take my two older nieces out for their birthday lunches, and to teach a short childbirth class for Jess and Casey (Zac's sister and brother-in-law).  Both were quite successful!

Here's the break down of the week:
We flew in Monday and had a big family dinner at my parents house.
Tuesday was spent hanging out with our friends in Yelm!
Wednesday I took Kate out for her birthday lunch (she is 5 now!) and in the evening we went to AWANA's with Lucy and Kate.
She's 5!
Thursday I had coffee with my friend Krista and then taught the class to Jess and Casey.  That evening we meet Jess and Casey for dinner so they could say hi to the kids.
Friday I took Lucy out for her birthday lunch and that night my mom, sister, sister-in-law and I went to see Mama Mia live at the Paramount in Seattle - great show!
She's turning 7 soon!
Whew!  We are excited to see Zac tonight and sleep in our own beds.

Happy Palm Sunday tomorrow and the start of Holy Week!  Hosanna, the King has come!

Weekend Adventures: Homeschool Science Fair

This post comes to you from Graham, WA!  The kids and I flew in this morning and are currently playing with ALL the cousins at my parents house - wonderful chaos!  We are here until Saturday and are excited to visit with our missed family and friends.

Yesterday was a full day of church and the BACH (Bay Area Christian Homeschoolers) Science Fair.  There were 20 Science Fair entries, and a number of Art Fair entries.  Keanan's entry was a Lego ferris wheel demonstrating centripetal and centrifugal force.  He had to talk into the microphone to present his project to the entire audience - and he did an amazing job!!  So proud of him!
The Science Fair kids with their certificates and ribbons!
Saturday was spent at Keanan's soccer game, Kyla's ballet class, the farmer's market, and then having dinner and playing at the park with our friends the Hoffman's.

A fun, but busy weekend!

Weekend Adventures: Pi Day and 1st Grade Celebration!

We had such a great weekend that I was having too much fun to take pictures!

Saturday started with Keanan's first spring season soccer game - he had a lot of fun!  Kyla and I left from the game for her ballet practice and then shopping at the farmer's market (we've become farmers market people!).  During this time Keanan and Zac attended an amputee sports clinic that Zac was invited to.  They got a free lesson from a tennis pro (because we are going to be tennis people!) and met a lot of neat amputee's.

We all met back at the house around 1 to prepare for our Pi Day party which started at 1:59!  We had about 5 families come and bring pies.  While we were eating Keanan read the end of his 1st grade Bible reader to everyone, and then, to show that we never really finish reading God's word, he read the first story in his bible reader.  Zac prayed for him and we all celebrated his hard work - so proud of him!

When everyone had their fill of pie we walked over to the park (I LOVE that we can do that) so the kids could play on the toys and the adults played extreme croquet.  It was an awesome time!

Sunday was spent at church most of the day.  After service there was a family celebration complete with lunch and bouncy houses!  Zac blew the kids minds by taking his leg off and jumping in the bouncy house with them :)  The kids also received "secret missions" from Sunday school  - something about secretly blessing others... :)

This week is filled with school for Kyla and science fair preparation for Keanan.  Next Monday we fly to Washington for the week!

Weekend Adventures: The One Where We Just Stayed Home!

This has been our first real weekend to just BE at our new house!  It was very relaxing and just what we all needed.  We spent the time organizing the garage, weeding and moving dirt for my upcoming raspberry patch, and going on a family bike ride.  Kyla also had ballet on Saturday, followed by our trip to the farmers market while Zac and Keanan FINALLY got our other car registered in CA (oops!).  On Sunday Zac shared his faith story at church, which is a neat thing that happens every week.  He did a great job :)

In other news, Keanan finished first grade last Friday!!  We are having a Pi day party on Saturday (EVERYONE should be having a Pi day party on Saturday!!) with all of our friends and we will also be celebrating Keanan's accomplishments.
Working hard on the CAT
This week Keanan is doing his first ever standardized testing - and he is super excited! (weird kid)  He is taking the California Achievement Test (CAT) and I will send it in to get scored when he is done.  He did the reading section today and had a great attitude the whole time.

Weekend Adventures: A trench in the floor and Calistoga!

Here's how the weekend started for us:
Right after moving into our new house the sink in the kitchen clogged.  A plumber was called right away by our AWESOME new landlord, but he found dirt in the line meaning we had a broken pipe.  Sooooo...we had to vacate our new house for about a week (we snuck back in early) so they could rip up the floor in the living room (our house is on a concrete slab) and replace the pipe.  For the first two nights we "camped" on the floor of our old house since we still had the keys and had to clean it anyway.

The weekend was spent in beautiful Calistoga on the north end of the Napa Valley.  We had a hotel with amazing hot spring fed pools that we spent a ton of time in.  The town is super cute with great restaurants and shops.  We took a tour of a working flour mill built in the 1840's that was really cool, and another tour of a real castle that is also a winery!  Here are some of the pics and video from Zac's phone:

The flooring in our house should all be back to normal on Wednesday (yay!!) and Keanan starts spring soccer this week.  It is also the last week of first grade for Keanan!  Time is flying by!
