Please Pray for Us!

We leave for Mexico tomorrow!!!  We are packed and ready to go - and SOOOO excited about the opportunity to serve God, serve people, and learn what He has to teach us this next week.

Will you pray for us?  Here are a few specific needs:

 - safety in travel, and that we all (there are 20 of us total) make it on the plane going and coming.  We are flying non-rev with Alaska (kind of like standby)

- housing arrangements go smoothly and all the kids sleep!

- Safety for the guys while working on the brick machine

- patience and wisdom for the moms as we hang out with kids at the mission

- relationships with the families and kids at the dump

- health for all of us (most of us have colds at the moment) and the we can keep the kids from drinking the water!

- for the family the guys are making the bricks for, Carlos is the dad and his 2 youngest daughters come to the mission school

- that God will speak, (and we will listen!), as we step out of our comfort zones and culture!

- that baby Eli does not make his appearance until I get back! (our housemate, Amber's, baby due next month - I am the doula)

Thank you for your prayers!  I am not sure about our internet access while down there, so probably won't post again until we get back next week.  Adios!

Mexico 2013

Radical movement #2!

In about 2 weeks we are going on a mission trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with our small group from our church.  All of us - including the kids.  There are 4 families with kids ranging in age from 6 months to 6 years (10 kids total), and a few high schoolers.  We will be spending most of our time out at the Calvary Chapel mission at the dump - where people are living and working.  The dads will be making bricks and building a house for a family at the dump while the moms and kids will be hanging out at the mission interacting with the Mexican kids that come there to learn English and the bible.

"That's crazy!" you might be saying.  "Why would you take your kids there?!"  Why not?  As a small group we have recently read the book "Radical: taking back your faith from the American dream" which then inspired this trip.  We are too comfortable in our little suburban world where we have turned our faith into something convenient for us, while ignoring the "hard teachings" of Jesus in the gospels.  We need to wake ourselves up.  To take a real look at how people are living in other parts of the world, to respond to the call that Jesus gave all believers to GO.  We want our kids to be a part of this as well.

We arrive in Mexico on the 30th and will leave on Feb. 6th - God willing we all make it on the airplane (we are flying standby in order to save money for the actual work at the mission).  We will be staying with church families in downtown PV and then driving out to the dump to work each day.

Please pray for us!  For favor in travels (with 10 kids under 6!).  For all the housing details to get worked out.  For safety while in PV.  For the guys to be able to make lots of bricks for building the house.  For relationships with the Mexican kids and families.  For our kids to sleep!

Radical?  YEP!  But this is what God is calling us to do - and we are so excited!

Week in Review: 1-4-13

We rang in the new year with Auntie Jess and Uncle Casey this year!  Lots of finger food, sparkling cider, fireworks and games =)

This weeks letter was W for walrus, wave, and watermelon.  It was nice taking a week off for Christmas, but we enjoy the routine of our school days.

The biggest thing of the week was Miss Amber and Bentley (awesome dog!) moving in upstairs.  The transition has gone really well and the kids love when they can go outside with Bentley.  We all got our flu shots this week to keep baby Eli safe when he is born next month, and because so many around us are sick.

I started a month long de-clutter plan this week that is going awesome!  You wouldn't think we had anything left to get rid of after our major clean out in September, but we do!  It's going to be a every 4 months routine.

Happy Sabbath tomorrow!  How do you plan to rest?

Welcome Amber!!

Today, after planning and working out details for the last 4 months, our friend Amber is moving in with us!  She is bringing with her Bentley the dog and baby Eli, who will be born sometime in February!!  We are so excited and have been anticipating this day for a long while.  Amber will have 2 rooms upstairs and the upstairs bathroom all to herself.  Please pray for all of us as we make this transition to sharing our home.  We are radically stepping out in faith and following this call that God has placed on our hearts - to Him be the glory!

Four Words for 2013

As is my tradition, I have been praying over the last couple of days for a word for each of us to focus on over the next year.  I'm excited to share them and ask if you are reading this post, to please pray them over each of us.

Kyla - Whimsical.  Kyla is approaching the innocent age of 3.  She loves to make believe and it is such a joy to see her imagination growing.  She believes with all her heart that she is a beautiful princess - and she is right!  I pray that this whimsical spirit of hers is nurtured and grows, as does her childlike faith in her Heavenly Father.

Keanan - Connection.  Keanan is building connections between everything in his world - in learning to read, do math, build relationships with friends, understand his role in the family, and understand his relationship with God.  I pray that these connections will continue as he grows mind, body, and spirit this year.

Zac - Persevere.  Zac is working hard at his job and at Graph Seeker - most of his time is spent on these two things.  Both can be frustrating and difficult.  I pray for favor in these areas, especially as he works toward possibly releasing Graph Seeker this year.

Jen - Radical.  My word was the one that came most easily.  I, and we as a family, have undergone some radical changes in thinking and how we live this last year - and I pray for this to continue.  I pray the most that I would not shrink back, but radically step out however God calls me in 2013 as I learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.  Stay tuned tomorrow as I post about our first RADICAL change as a family this year!

This is my theme song as we enter 2013.  May your faith be reckless as we show the world around us the love of Christ!
