A new tool in the Vawter house (so far I LOVE it!)

I was tired of making emotional judgement calls (read that as "yelling") about discipline when my kids were disobeying.  Enter, the if/then chart!  We wrote this "together" and it was then approved by daddy.  So nice now to say, "let's see what your consequence is".   We have 3 simple rules in our house (from the "We Choose Virtues" program that I will blog about later): 1. Obey  2. Be Kind  3. Be a Helper  Here's what happens if they get broken:

Don’t obey/  listen/ show respectEphes. 6:1   Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.1. Age time out
2. Apologize & ask forgiveness
3. Clean for ½ age minutes
Whining/ complaining/ throwing fitsPhil. 2:14  Do everything without complaining or arguing.1. Don’t get what you wanted
2. Sit on landing until calm
3. Calmly count to 10 and take 2 deep breaths
Unkind words/ tone/ actionsEphes. 4:32  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.1. Apologize & ask forgiveness
2. Say/do something kind
Arguing with each otherEphes. 4:3  Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.1. Loose object
2. Sit on landing until calm
3. Touch noses & apologize
Hurting someoneProv. 25:28  Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.1. 10 minute time out in room
2. Apologize and ask forgiveness

  1. Note: we do spank if these consequences are not followed by the offender - do with that what you will, no judging.
