Some Business Updates - Cause I Know You Really Want To Know =)

After attending almost one birth a month last year, Zac and I decided it would be better for the family if I did a little less this year (like 6 instead of 10).  One birth a month might not sound like much, but let me tell you - it's a lot of work!  I meet each client about 5 times, not including the actually birth - which could be anywhere from a few hours, to a few days!  On top of having two little kids and trying to homeschool.  A little crazy!

Instead, I am teaching more childbirth classes - which I also love!  I volunteer at the Care Net Pregnancy Center in Olympia to teach a childbirth class one Saturday every three months, and also teach a Saturday class (that I charge for) in Yelm every couple months.  I am working on something online too - which I'll post more about later.

The Lord has given me a lot of peace with slowing down a bit in my birth work, which is good since He has also led me to the administrator position for children's ministry at our church =)  I get to do the behind the scenes paperwork/computer work - which I also LOVE!

Teaching and administration/organization are really my spiritual gifts - and it feels great to be using them!  To God be the glory!

Preschool/Totschool - Letter B

B is for bear and bat!  Our science activity was making a balloon blow up all by itself (with the help of baking soda and vinegar) and our art time was finger painting rocks!  On Wednesday the kids got to spend the day at Grandma's house playing with Lucy, Kate, and our friends Allie - while I went to the last BSF meeting of the year.

We'll be taking a break from the norm in school this next week because of the holiday, but will be having lots of fun with the story of Ping!

H is for Horse. F is for Fish.

We are continuing on our alphabet trip around Washington State and crossed H and F off our list this month.

A few weekends ago we went up to beautiful Summit Lake, where my grandparents live.  The weather was awesome, and the kids (and Zac) even went swimming!  It was great to visit with the family, and Keanan did some fishing off the dock.  He was so excited, and even caught enough to feed us and a bunch of friends for dinner that night.  Nothing like fresh trout, yum!!!

Today we were invited up the the ranch at Cascades Camp for pony rides!  It's a huge bonus when Auntie Jess is the ranch manager =)  This is the first time the kids have really been on horses, and they LOVED it!!  They each got to walk/trot around the arena on their own horse and then Auntie Jess hitched up one of the horses to the pony cart and they trotted around the arena some more.  They really got comfortable on the horses - Keanan was riding with no hands and Kyla loved riding bareback! After we took the two horses back to the pasture with the 30 or so other horses the kids fed them carrots and we did some bird watching down at the marsh.  Lots of family fun!

Miss Aubrey

On Saturday I spent the entire afternoon snuggling my new niece and visiting with Mathew and Elizabeth.  It was such a fun time!  I even snuck in a little photo shoot of the beautiful princess =)

Preschool / Tot School Letter A

We finished up our first week of our new curriculum on Friday (see this post) and had tons of fun with the letter A!  Keanan has also been working on the sight words the, see, and, a - which we will continue next week.  Our science activity was planing seeds/starts in our garden and our art activity was painting with food coloring in milk!  More fun to come next week =)

Welcome Aubrey Lucile Lathrop!

My beautiful new niece was born early yesterday morning (1:14am) weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces and measuring 20 inches long!  So proud of my brother and sister-in-law and this perfect little life they had a part in making.  And super excited that I get to snuggle her tomorrow!!!!  Love her already!

A New Chapter in Our Preschool Journey!

Today we finished letter Z!  This makes two trips through the alphabet with Keanan, with a planned two more to go.  This last year we have been using a combination of two curriculum's:
Letter of the Week by Confessions of a Homeschooler

Rasing Rock Stars Preschool by 1+1+1=1

Each of these was only $10!  Kyla had fun doing the Tot School Printables from 1+1+1=1 as well.  We added in a bunch of library books and Montessori type activities that I switched out every 2 weeks - and had an AWESOME year of school!

Next week we are starting our new year of school using primarily these two curriculums with Keanan:

You Can Read by 1+1+1=1

We will also be doing science once a week, math twice a week, art once a week and using the library a ton (along with BSF and some sport in the fall).

Kyla will be starting her letter journey doing letter crafts from No Time For Flashcards and Animal ABC's from 1+1+1=1.

As summer progresses and we are not able to do a full week of "normal" school time, we'll be using the Library and a curriculum called Five in A Row which guides learning from wonderful children's books.

I'm excited for this next adventure!

Family Fitness

As summer approaches (it has even felt like summer here the last few days) so does swimsuit season.  Ugh.  Zac and I (mostly I) have been pretty lazy when it comes to exercise, and thus feeling rather flabby.

Flabby + swimsuit = not so great.

So in addition to our healthy eating lifestyle (which we do a pretty good job at) we have started to workout as a family.  In the morning the kids and I have fun with some yoga!  Specifically following along to this video:

In the evening, right before bed Zac and I have been doing this routine:

We are up to 2 reps, and will work up to 4 I think.  It's pretty killer to start with, but we both feel really good after.

It is so much easier to be fit when we are doing it together!  Are you ready for summer?

Wordy Wednesday

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."   - 1 Peter 5:10
