God's World News - a review

For the last three months we have been receiving the Pre-k/K edition of God's World News called God's Big World.  This monthly magazine is kept in our book box in the school room and the kids choose to read out of it almost every day.  We LOVE it!  Here's a description from their site:

God's Big World is designed for PreK to Kindergarten students and is a trustworthy way to introduce the youngest students to a biblical worldview on current events. Like other GWNews publications, God's Big World emphasizes News, Knowledge, and Wisdom in a colorful presentation that helps you introduce new skills and ideas in an engaging way.
  • Age-appropriate stories introduce children to the concept that God is in control in the world today.
  • Read-to-me text, simple concepts, and big pictures are perfect for young pre-readers.
  • MAP-IT! Locator maps correspond with a full-sized (20" x 30") world map sent at the beginning of the school year to each class, homeschool teacher, and homeschool group coordinator (five maps sent to homeschool groups).
  • Creative activities and puzzles build alphabet, number, sequence and other skills.
I love how they bring in current world events (our last edition had an article about the cruise ship crash in Italy) and explain them in a way my kids (even Kyla) can understand.  We often turn to YouTube to learn more about a particular article, and I end up learning as much as my kids!  Zac and I have a strong desire for our kids to be aware of what is happening in the world, how God is working, and how we can help.  God's World News really helps foster that in a kid safe environment (unlike TV).  I'm excited to subscribe to other editions of this great magazine as our kids get older.  Homeschooling or not, I highly recommend this for all families.

Check out the website (linked from the picture above).  There are sample versions you can view or other editions for bigger kids. =)
