I hate disposables!

Evidently I have super-soaker children! for about 2 weeks Kyla has started leaking in her cloth diaper at night (in it about 12 hours). Just enough to get the sheets wet so I have to change them in the morning. So I had the genius idea to put her in disposables for night. The little wet spot turned into a puddle! So I added a Flip disposable insert and that was okay for a few days - but expensive. BUT...last night at 12 she woke up crying. She was lying in a puddle all wet and cold. She had peed right out the side of the disposable - what the heck! She was so mad to be woken up and lying on the floor while I changed the sheets. It took a long time to get her back to sleep.

So we are back to cloth. I would rather deal with a little wet spot in the morning. I have ordered a wool soaker for nighttime that should solve all these problems. It just shipped with the rest of my diaper parties kit, so excited!

We spent today making jam at my moms house with the yummy strawberries that Zac got yesterday. I love freezer jam! I am going to do some more next week so we will be sure not to run out this year. After naps the kids (Lucy and Keanan) played in Grandma's little pool.

We then packed everyone up and headed out to Auntie Linda and Uncle Steve's 25th anniversary garden party at their house. They renewed their vows, it was super sweet. The food was awesome and we got to visit with a bunch of my extended family. Keanan had fun looking for frogs in the creek and dancing.

Lots of chores to do around the house tomorrow, blah.

Letter of the week - I

We didn't do as much craft stuff this week because we were busy playing outside! Maybe summer as decided to show up finally. We made an ice cream cone I and an inch worm. We got some fun books about an island, ice cream truck, and iguana at the library.

The verse this week was: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Kyla has become a rolling fool this week! She is also discovering her voice and loves shrieking! It is pretty cute. Keanan is getting annoyed at her trying to grab him or his toys. I am hearing "no Kyla, don't touch that" or "no Kyla, don't watch me" quite a bit from him. He also asked me earlier this week if he could stomp Kyla, or kick Kyla, or step on Kyla. I, of course, told him we do not do any of that to Kyla. I also informed him that those things would result in a time out AND spanking. At least he asked! He did step on he once prior to asking these questions. It didn't help that she thought he was playing with her and laughed! Ah siblings.

I love my Roomba!

We got back from a busy day of playing outside at Grandma's house and my house was clean. Thank you, oh thank you roomba!

I HATE allergies! I am dying right now and can't take anything effective since I'm breastfeeding. Ugh. Next year will be better.

As we were leaving church this morning Keanan and Zac were messing around and Zac dropped Keanan, from about shoulder height. He landed on the concrete floor on the right side of his head. I was a ways away. My heart stopped when I looked over and saw my baby lying on the ground, not moving. He blacked out for a few seconds. He twitched and then woke up crying. Zac scooped him up and we took off for the ER. He cried most of the way there and then started falling asleep. It took both of us to keep him awake. They got him in really quick and immediatly ordered a CT scan. The doctor let him fall asleep so they could do the scan, then he would be still. After the scan the doctor examined him, he slept through the entire thing. It took about 30 mins. to get the x-rays back, everything was fine. He just had a mild concussion. After Keanan woke up and they saw he could keep some food down we were sent home. Once we were home he acted like nothing had happened. Jess and Casey were with us the whole time and Jess brought over dinner and desert (thank you guys). The kids are both sleeping now.

I am so thankfully to the Lord for watching over Keanan; it could have been much, much worse. God again gave me a strange amount of peace and calm through the whole thing - just like with Zac's accident. You don't need to convince me that the Holy Spirit resides in us - I know! Zac was very upset, still is. Please pray for him. Kyla did great the whole time, never got really crabby. Another crazy thing about the day - Keanan kept his undies dry ALL DAY. I would like to not go back to the ER anymore, thank you very much. *SIGH*

Happy Father's Day

The Poem

My Footprint is small but getting bigger everyday,
I am learning how to be big by watching you work, love and play.
Remember when your days are long and you can’t walk another mile,
That this little footprint makes it all worthwhile.

Letter of the week - H

I don't know why, but this week got really busy! For our fun with the letter H we made a hand H, and a heart hug. We found some really fun books about hamsters, hugs, and hippos at the library as well.

The verse this week was: Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:2

We also had some crafty fun making Father's day gifts for Daddy and the Grandpas! I will share what they are after the appropriate people receive their gifts (my Dad is in China right now). Zac's gift turned out so awesome, I want to keep it!

We got 2 more kittens this week, for a total of 3. These ones are tame, love to play with Keanan, and sleep in the garage. Hopefully they will stay around for a while.

I had some struggles at the beginning of this week trying to be super mom and do everything. Yeah, that didn't work out so well. Had a good chat with my friend Jesus on Tuesday night about it. My mom also suggested that I was being crazy with the lack of schedule with the kiddo's. So we have been trying really hard to stick to a get up at 8am, lunch at 12:30, nap at 1:30, bed by 8:30 schedule. I think this is helping Keanan not have so many meltdowns, ahh the joys of being 2.

Tasting my first hard cheese

Today was the day! It has been 4 weeks since the formation of my first cows milk farmhouse cheddar. So just a bit ago I retrieved it from my "cave" (college mini fridge) and cut out a wedge. It looked like cheese! It smelled like cheese! It tasted like old sweaty gym socks!!

The moisture and acidity levels were WAY to high! This is because my recipes call for using 2 gallons of milk, but my pot will only hold 1 1/2 gallons. I need to drastically reduce the amount of starter and rennet I am using. In looking back at my notes, it seems like I cooked the curds a little too hot as well.

Oh well. Live and learn. Hopefully the next one will be better - but I am a little doubtful since it seems from my notes that I made the same mistakes. We can't taste the next one for 2 more weeks since it was made from raw goats milk and must age for at least 60 days. I plan to make some lactic cheese this week. It is a really easy soft cheese that we can eat right away. Yum.

Keanan is always surprising us! Today he had a dentist appointment. The car ride started with him crying "I no go to dentist!" Great. He had calmed down by the time we got there and we had talked about all the dentist was going to do.

He did fantastic! He let the hygienist clean his teeth (with the electric brush and everything!), floss his teeth, put fluoride on his teeth and even take x-yays! The dentist said his teeth look great and commented that even his 2 year old would not let HIM do all the stuff that Keanan did!

The one thing he would not do: sit in the cool chair! =) He brushed his teeth with his new tooth brush all the way home. He also managed to disassemble the floss container, so we will have to snag another out of daddy's drawer. We had to brush his teeth before nap because he was so excited about it! =) Silly kid.

It has been 1 week since we got the 2 kittens. Now there is only one kitten. You know the creature I thought they killed...yeah. I have been trying to put the other one in the garage at night, but it won't come to me. The perils of living in the woods.

Fun Weekend

The weather has been beautiful! We were outside all day yesterday (except for my trip to Safeway where I forgot my wallet, had them put my cart in the cooler, drive home to get my wallet, drive back to Safeway to checkout, and drive back home - it takes 20 min to drive to Safeway from our house!). The Ireland's came over after dinner and we made smores over our fire! It was Keanan's first smore, I think he liked it! We are loving our backyard on nights like this.

We woke up this morning to a gift from our new vicious killers, a.k.a. kittens. They ate some creature and left the intestines and an eye as proof. I think it was a bunny - it was pretty big. The mass murderer, a.k.a. Zac, killed a big red-headed ants nest that was too close to the house today as well. All kids of slaughter going on around here.

We made it to church this morning where Esther and Keanan have taken up dancing in the aisle; really cute. Keanan got Kyla laughing hard when we got home. It was AWESOME! Hope to get the video up tonight. Now we are heading out to dinner with the Roger's and Ireland's. Yay Friends!

Letter of the week - G

This week we made a grass G, a guitar with Lucy, and some goldfish with Esther. The verse of the week was "Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone." Mark 16:15

On Tuesday we acquired two kittens! They are a little wild and afraid of us - but that is good! I just want them to eat mice. So far they have stuck around. They are really cute and fun to watch. Keanan has been standing at the back door laughing hysterically as they roll around the deck.Zac had an MRI today, and some blood work. Last week he had a chest x-ray as well. The doctor ordered all this because he has been having weird headaches when running. Just to make sure there is nothing (more) wrong with his brain. Hopefully he will get the results back on Monday.

Keanan has regressed on the potty front. Sigh. He doesn't seem to care when he pees in his pants. Not sure where to go from here.

Doctors and Dinner

Whew! What a busy day! Both Keanan and Kyla had doctor appointments this morning, Keanan's 2 year and Kyla's 4 month. They each got a shot (no fun) and are both perfectly healthy. Here's the stats:

Keanan: weight - 30 lbs; height - 36 in
Kyla: weight - 14 lbs; height - 25.5 in

After the doctor's office we drove down the street to visit Zac at work. Keanan then proceeded to pee on the floor of the break room at Zac's office!!! Ahhh!

We came home, had lunch and then our friend Jonas came to play for a couple hours. Really, Keanan and Kyla took naps and I got to play with Jonas! He is getting so big, almost 3 months old already!

Zac came home from work, Josh came to pick up Jonas, and we loaded up and headed to the Ireland's. Chris and Greg watched the kids while Zac and I went out for dinner. It was really nice to sit and talk together. Thanks Ireland's! A wonderful anniversary day =)

on a beautiful sunny afternoon, two best friends got married!

Letter of the week - F

Whew! It has been a busy week! We still managed to get in our letter fun. We made a feather F, a frog with Esther, and a flower with Lucy. We also got some cute books about fishing at the library, which was perfect since Keanan got a fishing pole for his birthday from Grandpa!

The verse of the week is: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, John 3:16 If you ask Keanan who this is about he will tell you, Jesus!

Kyla has still been a bit crabby this week. I am hoping it is only the dreaded 4 month growth spurt. Ugh...

We are just about ready for all of Keanan's friends to come over tomorrow for his party! Should be fun!
