It's broken

This is what we told Keanan happened to his plugs (paci's) today. He has had a pretty rough week, almost had to get stitches in his lip Tuesday night from falling UP the stairs. The result has been a pretty strong dependency on the plug. He was scream-crying earlier tonight because we wouldn't let him have it, ughhhh! So we decided to cut the tip off. At first he was a little upset and wanted Daddy to use his tools to fix it. Next week we will cut more off and so on until it is no longer useful and Keanan decides to throw them away on his own. It should be interesting, especially since Kyla will still have her plug. Wish us luck!

Praise the Lord!!

Just got a phone call from my mom: my brother, Mathew, is back in the US!! He will be heading to Washington in the next couple days! I am so thankful that he is out of Iraq, hopefully for good this time. Stupid hormones, made me start crying =) Can't wait to see him and have him meet Kyla!

Kyla's 2 week check-up

So as of today Kyla weighs 7lb. 14 oz and is 19.5 in. long! She has gained over a pound and grown an inch and a half in 2 weeks!! The doctor said she is totally perfect and wishes all babies were as good as she was. She has been consistently sleeping for 4 hours, eating, and then sleeping for another 3 hours each night. She has also been good about napping when Keanan is napping so I can rest. All in all, we are doing pretty good!

Kyla is 2 weeks old!

Kyla had alot of changes today! Her cord fell off a few days ago so today we officially started her in her cloth diapers! Yay! She has a huge bum!! Here is a pic of her first one:We also moved her upstairs to her own room and crib this morning. Tonight should be interesting. Hopefully she won't wake Keanan up, his room is right across the hall.

Kyla and I had a fun day of going to the post office and grocery shopping while Zac and Keanan went out to camp to see the horses and canoe with Uncle Casey! Tomorrow will be Kyla's fist Sunday at church. Afterwards my family is coming out for the day. Busy weekend! Off to bed!

Here is Kyla yesterday in her first non-one-piece outfit from Grandma:

Some updates and pictures

Keanan, Kyla and I have gotten along rather well with Dad at work. So far it is better than I thought it would be. We even went for our first outing today to the post office! Things are for the most part good in the Vawter house.

I am a little bit worried that Kyla is going to be a puker. I was holding her on my shoulder this afternoon, with her face pointing at my face. All of the sudden she projectile vomited on me THREE TIMES! It was all over my face, hair, down my shirt, on my shirt, pants - the only thing safe was my socks. I just sat there laughing for a minute - what can you do! I'm glad Keanan was napping because I got her cleaned up, fed again, down for a nap and then I got in the shower for the second time today. Finally got to shave my legs, so that part was good! Hopefully she won't make this a normal occurrence.

Here are some pics of our latest goings ons:

The first week

Kyla's first week has come and gone. As I was reflecting last night I came to the conclusion that we are soooo blessed!!

On Thursday night Kyla slept for 2 four hour stretches! Friday night and last night she slept for 5 hours and then 4 hours! She probably would have slept longer than 5 hours, but I had to wake her up to feed her. During Keanan's nap time I have been swaddling her so she will nap too. This way mom has been getting a little nap during the day. I feel like I am caught up on my sleep!

There is currently 5 bottles of breast milk in our freezer. Better too much than not enough, I guess! I feel like things are starting to regulate a little bit. Despite being a bit uncomfortable at times, it is good to know without a shadow of a doubt that she is getting enough to eat!

Keanan is an awesome big brother! He loves to help get diapers and other things than she needs. His behavior has improved in the last couple days (he was being a little punk for a while), so I think he is adjusting well.

Two words: BELLY BANDIT!! I just put on a pair of my jeans, NOT maternity jeans!! And they fit!! It's only been a week!!!!!!!! If you are pregnant or know someone who is pregnant, get them a Belly Bandit!

Tomorrow Zac goes back to work. This means it is me and the two kids by ourselves! Please keep us in your prayers. I am excited for the next week!

Things I LOVE Right Now

Warning: some of this might be too much information for some people.

- My husband! He is doing so great taking care of Keanan (who is being a little bit of a pill lately) and cleaning the kitchen (I tend to stress if the kitchen is a pit).

- Silk Nursing Pads! Soooo nice on sore nipples!

- Medela Gel nipple things from Chris! For the same reason as above.

- Belly Bandit! Totally recommend this for new moms or anyone getting ready to be a new mom! I feel like my stomach has shrunk a ton because of wearing this! It is also helping my posture during nursing so I don't hurt my back.

- Tucks Pads! Oh the relief!

- Livingston Red Rose Wine! Oh how I have missed you!

- Fig Newtons! My favorite snack at the moment.

- My kids! So weird to type that in the plural!

Busy Times

We came home Sunday evening, not even 24 hours after arriving at the hospital! It was so nice to sleep in our own bed. Keanan came home Monday evening and we are all adjusting pretty well. He loves his baby sister and is constantly saying hi to her.

Kyla is doing great. She is a little pig! I'm sure she will be fitting into her cloth diapers in no time. She is sleeping pretty good too. She saw her doctor on Monday afternoon who confirmed that she is practicly perfect. She got her first bath at home this morning:
So now we plan to hang out at the house for the rest of the week. Zac and Keanan are making random trips into town and trying to bag our local bobcats, but the rest is pretty relaxed.

Kyla's Birth Story

What a crazy adventure! This birth was SOOOO much different from Keanan, but both were good. We are amazed at Kyla, she has been such and easy/good baby so far. Here is the story:

We arrived to the hospital at about 5pm. I was hooked up to the monitors and had to sit on the dumb bed for about 30 min. Funny thing: we were in the same exam room with Keanan! Contractions were about 5 min. apart, but I was only 2 cm. dilated. So we were told to go walk around the hospital until 8pm and then they would check again. It was annoying to stop every few minutes in the middle of the hallway to lean on Zac during a contraction. They were getting pretty intense.

8pm finally came. I layed on the exam bed for about 20 min again and thought I was going to die; not an easy place to have contractions. I was now 4 cm. dilated so they admitted us. Our birth plan stated I wanted to use the big tub so we went to room 7: the same room Keanan was born in!!

The nurse brought me a birthing ball to labor on which made things much easier! Zac was AWESOME talking me through each contraction and helping me to stay relaxed. The nurses said were were an amazing team to watch. I am soo glad we practiced stuff from the Bradley book.

The nurse put all our info into the computer and started filling up the tub. I had a horrible contraction on the toilet and then got in the water. It was so nice. The moment the second contraction hit in the tub I knew something was up. I told Zac something was wrong, I had to push!! Zac ran into the hallway shouting for the nurses. My water broke in the tub and I started pushing. Zac and the nurses helped me out of the water but I couldn't make it very far. We got to the doorway of the bathroom and I could not move anymore. I asked for the birthing stool and one of the nurses ran it in. The next thing I know, Kyla was here! My midwife didn't even make it, the nurses caught her!

Everything happened so fast! The nurses were so great about following our birthing plan and didn't try to rush cutting the cord or cleaning her up. We had some really good bonding time. I was sure that I was going to tear a lot because of how fast she came; but only a very minor tear with 2 stitches. My pubic bone was not affected at all since I was squatting on the birthing stool! I feel fantastic.

She is absolutely perfect and looks a lot like Keanan did. God is soooo good. She hardly cries and has been nursing like a little pig! We all got a good amount of rest last night. Keanan should be here anytime to meet his sister, I am very excited for that!

We are planning on going home tonight, so we are only gong to have family come to the hospital today. Visitors are welcome at home, just send us an email or voicemail so we can plan a time. Thank you all for your prayers!

Zac will post pictures after we eat.

Kyla Rose Vawter has arrived!

Born at 9:24pm. 7 lbs, 1 oz - 18in. Birth story and more ( and better) pictures to come later.

Here we go!

Looks like we are heading into the hospital in the next hour or so!! YAY!!

Contractions started about 6am and have been growing all day. My mom came and got Keanan around 11. Zac and I have been walking and hanging out while I bounce on my exercise ball. I called the midwife a little bit ago to give her a heads up and she said to wait a bit longer and we would see her tonight!

Please pray that labor would be quick and relatively easy once we get to the hospital. Please also pray that my pubic bone would not split during the actual birth - I would like to be able to move and walk around afterwards this time!

We will be taking the netbook, so we will put updates on the blog when we are able.

A Bit Disappointing

I had an appointment with the midwife today. She ran a non-stress test, which the baby did perfect for, and an ultrasound to measure fluid, which was also great. She checked my cervix and there has been NO change since 3 weeks ago when I was last checked, no dilation at all. So now I have an appointment on Monday morning. If I make it to that appointment they will schedule an induction for Friday probably. I REALLY do not want to be induced, it makes everything harder in a drug free birth. PLEASE pray that this baby comes soon!

Cloth Diaper Song!

This is too funny!

Here are some of the lyrics:

Try those disposables; Look, Ma, no more tears.
So what if they sit in a landfill for so, so many years?
But there’s something else out there for you,
If you want to give it a try.
They can fit on your newborn, your crawler, your walker,
Or you can buy ‘em, One Size.

Try using cloth – they’re amazing.
And they come in different colors.
If you use cloth, imagine the savings.
Don’t worry if you annoy your mother.

They’re great for when I’m at home or when I go outside.
(I use cloth)
My baby’s bottom isn’t something I’m always trying to hide.
(I use cloth)
They’re great for during the day.
They’re absorbent for overnight, too.
(I use cloth)
My baby’s backside is cute even if it’s covered in poo.

Much Better

Today was a really good day! Zac dropped Keanan off for the morning to play with Esther (thank you SOOO much Chris!) on his way to work. This meant I had the house to myself for a couple hours! It was so nice to relax a little bit and spend some good time alone with Jesus. I drove into Lacey later on and had a date lunch with Zac, just the two of us! Then back to Yelm to pick up Keanan and get him home for his nap. He played hard with Esther and slept for 3 1/2 hours! This meant I got a good nap in too =) We also had small group tonight so Auntie Jess and Uncle Casey came over to watch Keanan. He didn't do as well as he normally does though, I think he was missing mommy. Now he is in bed and Zac and I are going to watch House, the end to a great day! Now to make it a PERFECT day I should go into labor! One can only hope =)
