Keanan has been in a testing mode lately. He tests EVERYTHING I say. It seems like he spends most of his day in time out (not really, just more than before). This is making me a little anxious about having 2. Please keep me in your prayers!
Zac's life is .... interesting at the moment. He has been dealing with some of the emotional consequences of losing his leg more lately. Please also keep him in prayer in regards to his work.
This last year has been very hard for us. And with baby girl coming soon, it seems that 2010 might be just as difficult. Praise God that he is our rock! Proverbs 18:10 "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."

We spent Christmas Eve at our house with Zac's family over for dinner and presents. Christmas morning was here at home and then Christmas day was at my parents house with my family. We even got to skype with Mathew and Elizabeth who are living it up in Hawaii at the moment. I ate WAY to much junk at my parents house, but it was sooo good. Before presents my Dad read the Christmas story and we sang happy birthday to Jesus - the real reason for the season. Good times had by all!

I had my midwife appointment today (missed the one yesterday, grrr). All was good. When she first measured me she said I was measuring a little bit too small so they wanted to schedule an ultrasound to check on everything before my next appointment. After feeling the baby's position she said the baby is all cock-eyed to the side so she remeasured me and said I am fine. Yay, no extra ultrasound to pay for! She is still small, but within the normal range.
Keanna and I have been busy cleaning today for Zac's family to come tomorrow. Tonight we will take a break and FINALLY go visit the Ireland's and see baby Jadon - I am SUPER excited!! I will get Zac to take a belly pic tonight and I promise to post that and other Christmas pictures later on this evening - I am too tired right now and am going to take a nap!

We are getting ready to go to my midwife appointment and then up north for Zac's cousin's wedding. Busy day!
Sunday, December 20, 2009
This morning we all made it to church and even dressed up! Have to get more than one wear out of the outfit I got Keanan for Zac's cousin's wedding on Tuesday! We took some pics by our tree that I will try to find time to post tomorrow. Home for lunch and a nap. During Keanan's nap I got to talk to my brother who is on leave from Iraq in Hawaii for two weeks. Today is he and Elizabeth's first wedding anniversary! They are enjoying their time together and hopefully he should be home for good in about 3 months.
After Keanan woke up we headed to Spanaway to drive through "Fantasy Lights." Keanan and I enjoyed it, Zac claimed it was ghetto like most things in Spanaway. After our drive we went to Grandma and Grandpa's for pizza, way to much candy (mom made divinity!), and some playtime with Lucy. Keanan even got a bubble bath in Grandma's cool tub.
My sickness is almost gone so I hope to go visit the Ireland's sometime this week. We are in for a busy one, as most of you are too. 5 days til Christmas!

Keanan is much better, nose only runs when he starts crying or something (which was pretty often on this day of meltdowns over nothing in particular). Grrrrrrrrr
On a happy note: our black sectional couch is gone! Yay, our family room is back to some type of normal.

We had a fun weekend despite our sickness. Saturday was spent with my family playing many rounds of Settlers of Canaan and eating dinner together here. Sunday we spent the day with the Ireland's , again playing Settlers and eating food here. Hmmm, maybe Zac and I will play again tonight. We are really hooked on this game at the moment!
Other than that, nothing new. I am trying to enjoy our routine before it gets turned upside down by the baby!

I am loving the new detergent I got for our cloth diapers! It is made (really re-labled) by the makers of our diapers. I think we have finally solved our stink issues! Now on to another problem. Keanan has been peeing a lot at night. He is leaking onto his pj's a little bit too. So I was doing some research on how we can stuff the diapers to make them more absorbent. Right now we use a large microfiber insert with a small microfiber insert all wrapped in a hemp/cotton insert. I discovered this new diaper insert material called zorb that is supposed to be really good. The one I ordered in sewn between layers of bamboo fleece, which is also supposed to be absorbent. So we will see how that goes.
It was 11 degrees here this morning! I am so glad for our heat pump! However, when I was taking a shower the water pressure really started to die. Zac thinks a pipe might be frozen in the garage so he riged up a tent over the tank and water softener with a heater. Hopefully that solves that.
The last couple days we have stopped using the monitor when Keanan is sleeping. It is taking some getting used to for me, but we have to do it sometime! We are not buying a new one when the baby comes. We also discovered that Keanan has learned how to open our doors. Now we need to buy those childproof things for the front door and garage. Always something. I think he is awake from his nap, so off I go.
Sunday, December 6, 2009
We also got a new couch today (thanks Grandma and Grandpa). Here is Keanan enjoying one of it's features.
And just for fun (he's so cute!)
Thursday, December 3, 2009
Here are some Keanan updates:
- He now knows his name and if you ask him will tell you. We are working on the "Vawter"
- He loves to run, jump and dance - especially "river dance" that Auntie Jess taught him
-He can say over 150 words (we counted) which is crazy considering the average for a 2 year old boy is 50!
- He is starting to put 2 words together
- He is about 30 pounds - almost too heavy for me to pick up right now!
- He loves to read books and is starting to read them back to me
- His favorite friends to play/fight with are Esther and Lucy
- He is starting to get interested in coloring
- He is starting to pray on his own (so cute!)
- His hero is Daddy, but he always runs to Mommy
- He knows just how to push our buttons and is becoming an expert at time out
- He is amazing!

Zac found it VERY difficult to walk in the snow with his leg, he still did it though. He is very tired and sore from the day. I also had much trouble because the snow was so deep. Trying to step in it and pulling my legs out really hurt my SPD condition. I'm going to need to make a trip to the chiropractor this week. Keanan was very excited about the snow, until we got out of the car. He got freaked out when he would sink in it, even a tiny bit. So I had to carry him, which also complicated things with my hips. Zac found the tree on his own because Keanan and I had to go back to the cars after only a little bit.
He ended up finding a really cute one. It's the smallest we have had, but that is good for me this year. I am sitting in front of it now, all lit up and decorated. I went a little crazy when we got home and put up all of our Christmas decorations except for the stuff in the kitchen. I am tired and probably going to pay for it tomorrow.
So we shall see how long it takes Keanan to knock down our tree. He has done good so far and we keep telling him to touch with one finger (there is no way he is not going to touch the thing). Pics to come when I have more energy!

Hope everyone had a wonderful day with family and friends! Now it is time for Christmas decorations! Yay!!!

I am so glad Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I am really excited to eat! We are very thankful for all the love, support and prayers over the last year. So many blessings! Praise be to God! Have a wonderful turkey day!

His court date is today around 2:30pm. Please be praying that the judge is understanding. We really don't need another bill!

Here's my list for the day: clean the kitchen (normal daily thing), wash and strip diapers (about a 5 hour process), steam clean the family room carpet, dust, regular laundry and fold, empty out my dead flower pots, and weed the flower beds.
Zac wants to clean the gutters, mow the yard, weed eat, and fill in some pot holes in the driveway. Oh and maybe do some work under the house that he has been putting off. I better go wake him up so we can get moving!

Keanan is embarking on the pleasant world or the terrible twos. Yesterday we were playing with his mega blocks and he kept taking them from me with an intense "mine!" Not sure where he picked that up. So we were working on sharing with mommy yesterday...
Zac is still dealing with the emotional repercussions of losing his leg. A little more in the last week. Please keep him in your prayers.
Hi Mathew! Miss you. Did you get the stuff I put in mom's package?? =)

In other news: Zac broke his leg last night (the fake one) while he and Keanan were out in the dark looking for deer with the spotlight. The knee part came loose from the socket. Zac emailed Garth right away and he met us at his office today to fix it. So awesome of him to do that on his Saturday. It took about 2 hours and then we went to Cabela's to look at the animals and have lunch. Zac had an ostrich sandwich! Keanan and I were not so brave. We didn't get back home until 3, way past nap time, but Keanan did great! A fun family day.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
Keanan has felt her kick a few times and thinks it is funny. However, he then tries to kick her back. We will have to work on that...
Sunday, November 8, 2009
Zac also brought home an awesome book that we are borrowing from a co-worker, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. When I was pregnant with Keanan we did the normal full day childbirth class at the hospital. I thought I knew everything and was ready to go after that. After having given birth to Keanan I realized (and more now when I have been thinking about it) how unprepared I really was.
We are slackers this time and not taking any classes, but if we did - we would take a Bradley method class. The book is awesome. I am actually reading it this time instead of skimming it (that's what I did last time). There are exercises to do (which I am doing right now) and practice sessions for labor and delivery that Zac and I are doing together. It is all about husband-coached birthing, being completely relaxed - something you have to practice, and completely natural. Totally recommend this book and method for anyone wanting a natural, drug-free birth.

And the bad news... today I have officially hit 3rd trimester in this pregnancy! I remember this part from last time. I am starting to get pretty uncomfortable already and am dealing with some insomnia. Keanan seems to get more whinny and clingy the farther along I get; probably just in my head. 12 more weeks seems so long!
Once we get to 30 weeks I will post a belly pic =)
Sunday, November 1, 2009
I also want / need to weed the flowerbed and steam clean the family room carpet. Sigh.
Not enough energy or time in my day. Zac says I am crabby and need a nap. Sigh again.
Saturday, October 31, 2009
We have had a pretty chill morning, besides me going into Safeway to get my flu shot, yuck! Tonight we will make an appearance at "Trunk or Treat" put on by our church and then head into Grandma and Grandpa's house so Keanan and Lucy can enjoy their crazy sugar high together! I think I will limit him to 2 pieces of candy or something.
We had a fun visit with our friends, the Carpenter's, from college yesterday. Their little one, Alisha, was quite taken with Keanan (she is about 6 months old). He was very silly for her!
Be safe tonight!

Off to bed I go. I am tired after a busy day of cleaning. We have company coming for dinner tomorrow and I still need to mop sometime in the midst of going to Keanan's class and getting dinner made.
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
I chatted with the midwife about our little episode on Monday. She is running some tests, nothing serious. If those come back negative, she said it could just be the pregnancy hormones doing weird things to my body. Not uncommon. So we shall see.
Keanan was really good the entire time we were stuck there. Then we drove to Grandma's house and spent the day. Grandma even made fried chicken and rice a roni with gravy (my fav), yummy!!

I am tired of pushing potty training with Keanan. He had it down pretty good a while ago, but we are not back there yet. So I am not going to hold my breath that he will be potty trained by the time this baby gets here. Therefore, I needed more diapers so I won't have to wash every day. These seemed like a good way to go. And being a cotton prefold, they will help Keanan feel when he is wet. His other diapers wick the moisture away so he can't feel it. Maybe that will help a bit in the potty training area.
Zac woke me up a few times in the night. Keanan woke up an hour early. I had a cold shower and only got to wash my hair. The vacuum sucked up the rug and made a loud noise, so now Keanan is freaking out when it is on. Keanan was in his undies when I was trying to vacuum and peed SOMEWHERE on the carpet. He has not been listening well. I told Zac that I am on strike and not making dinner. In my stupidity, I put Keanan back in some undies after he peed in the potty. Two minutes later he peed on MY chair in the dinning room. While I was cleaning him up my soup boiled over and now my stove is gross. Baby girl is making it harder to breathe today. Keanan just dumped a bunch of raisins on the floor. It is only 12:30! I need to go back to bed and start over, but there are no sheets on my bed because I had to change them this morning. AHHHHHHH!
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
In other news. I took Keanan to the doctor this morning for this ongoing cold that has been plaguing him. We were worried that it had moved into his lungs or was an ear infection. Turns out he has a sinus infection, poor kid. So he is on antibiotics for 10 days. Hopefully that will take care of it.

Thank you so much for contacting us and for your interest in our research! We would love to have you participate sometime in the next year. We have just started a 5 year project to design an neural interface for powered leg prostheses. Your targeted reinnervation procedure has the potential to help control the powered ankle. We have one other patient who has had similar surgery. With our virtual leg system he was able to control his missing knee and his missing ankle in a computer generated leg model—it was quite exciting. We would like to have you visit us some time next year after we get the powered prostheses up and running. Then we would hope to have you come for a full week and we’d keep you quite busy with a whole series of experiments. We will pay all of your hotel and flight expenses and be able to give you a $200/day stipend for food and cabs.
As you recover, please try to move your missing ankle in all directions to strengthen the muscles when they reinnervate. Let me know when you feel like you get good muscle contractions when you try to move your ankle. Please feel free to ask any questions, of course, we will give you any information we can.
Todd Kuiken, MD, PhDSo exciting! Zac is going to be in regular email contact with him to work out details and such. Please keep this in your prayers.

Saturday I went to Chris' Pampered Chef show and bought come cookie sheets. It was nice to be out of the house by myself. Saturday night the Ireland's and Roger's came over. After putting the kids to bed we visited and played a very funny game.
Sunday we went to church with my parents in Graham. Zac wore pants for the first time and you could hardly tell he had a fake leg. Afterward, we went back to their house for the Seahawks game and nachos. Keanan and Lucy had a ton of fun playing together. Good times.
Hi Elizabeth. =)

Honestly I'm really uncomfortable with the fund.
I was asked before it was created, and after much discussion, thought & prayer I consented. So why am I uncomfortable with it? Several things, first - there are many people that need financial assistance much more than I do. Second, the loss of my leg is a lifestyle change of which has many different faces - maybe I don't "need" a jeep, I can live without a chia cream latte.
Why did I consent to the creation of this fund? "There are people that love you to the moon and back" ( Becky said that ), this is a way in which some would like to express that love so I will not deny them that.
Zac grew up in Mossyrock and it is a very, very small, close knit community. There has been an overwhelming desire to help him out in some way but since we live almost 2 hours from there this has been difficult. So Becky (pretty much Zac's second mom) took it upon herself to set up a trust fund for a new leg in Zac's name at our bank, Chase. Please only give if you feel called by God to do so. We are blessed and humbled by the outpouring of love we have received. God is so good! I don't know how all of it works, but below are the details:
It’s under: Zachais Vawter – Irrevocable Trust Agreement - # 2935949921

Poor kid, his cold has turned into a cough, only when he is laying down. He had a rough night last night. I rubbed some baby Vicks on him tonight and the humidifier is going in his room, so hopefully tonight will be better.
Monday, October 5, 2009
The only time he was in a diaper today was during nap and when we went to the store. And he only had one accident! He loves his big-boy undies =)
On a down side, he didn't eat his dinner - heh, you can't win 'em all. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good!
I am just doing some thinking out loud..... the manufacturer recommends this washing routine:
1. Cold wash with 1/4 recommended amount of detergent (we use Tide Free and Clear)
2. Hot wash with 1/4 recommended amount of detergent
3. Extra rinse.
Here is what I am going to try:
1. Quick wash on cold, no detergent (this rinses out nasty stuff and gets everything good and wet for washing. Since I have an HE machine it makes everything heavier so more water will be used in the actual washes)
2. Cold wash with 1/4 recommended amount of detergent with an extra rinse.
3. Hot wash with 1/4 recommended amount of detergent with an extra rinse.
4. Quick wash with no detergent and an extra rinse.
I will also do the whole Dawn and bleach thing once a month (I was doing every other month). We'll see how this goes. Off to restart the washer, again...
ETA: Going to switch detergents as well to see if that helps (thanks for the suggestion Em). Evidently Tide is not the best for the dipes so I am going to try All Free and Clear (it's the only diaper approved detergent that Safeway carries). If that doesn't help, I'll order some of the recommended ones online.

Keanan has transitioned to his big boy room like a pro. No issues with staying asleep at night or anything. He did fall out of the bed the first night, but there was a blanket on the floor so he just slept right through it. He is talking like crazy! So many new words all the time. Right now he is working on helicopter, sometimes we can actually understand it! He is also loving to dance and do the motions to the kid songs CD's that we have. He goes and stands by the speaker and says "mus" to get us to turn it on. That or he says "bus" over and over (wheels on the bus is his favorite song). Zac and I are getting the songs stuck in our heads.
Keanan and I went to "class" on Friday at the Hands On Children's Meuseum. He loves it there. He painted leaves and we pressed them on paper for the craft time - so cute! I really like the teacher, we are going to try to go as many Friday's as possible.
Zac hasn't been wearing his leg much. He had to get some adjustments done because it was hurting. He also needs more special socks to wear with it. I think he is nervous about hurting his stump. He started PT this week and has exercises to do everyday. Zac says yee-haw.
Still un-named baby girl is doing well and moving a lot. We have her named narrowed down to two choices, but nothing is really hitting us. We might have to wait till we meet her!
We went to the Wilcox Farm Harvest Fest today. It was pretty fun and we got free omelets! There were tours of the farm in a hay wagon pulled by a tractor so we got to see how they process the eggs. Keanan really liked the tractors.
That's all for now. We are off to Mossyrock tomorrow.

Tonight we had small group so Jess (Zac's sister) came over to watch Keanan. We were gone about 30 minutes when Jess calls. Something happened and she needed stitches, but Keanan was okay. We came back home and turns out while they were eating dinner Keanan spotted the bobcat out the window! Long story short: Zac drove her into the ER and Keanan and I went back to small group. Zac doesn't really want to discuss the details on here, but Jess is okay and the bobcat ran off we think. No - it didn't attack her.
On another note; Jess brought the CUTEST dress for baby girl! Here is a pic.

We are having a mice problem under the house which is why I got them. They were going to be outside only. So now it is back to craigslist to find some more.

Last night after Keanan went to bed I was off for Ladies Night with the other gals from our small group. We did facials, ate food, talked and watched The Office. So nice!
Today we made it to church (only 20 mins. late), came home for lunch and Keanan went down for a nap. He is still sleeping and it's been 3 hours!!! Zac headed for Tacoma with brother-in-law Casey to pick up some furniture items we are getting from his Grandma's house. They include: headboard and footboard for us, dresser with mirror for us, cedar hope chest for still un-named baby girl, and a set of folding chairs. He won't be home till late so I need to figure out something for Keanan and I to do after he gets up.
It's going to be a busy week around here so I am enjoying the calm before the storm!
Friday, September 18, 2009
Zac tried on his first socket today! It was pretty good, but they are making adjustments and he will try it again with a leg on Friday! If that all fits well he will wear the leg home!! Please pray that it all goes well and fits perfect.
Pics from the day:

Next I had the privilege of driving into the heart of downtown Seattle so that Zac could meet the former owner of his car at her bank to get the title. Of course there was no place to park so I proceeded to circle the block until they were done. Then to get back to the freeway I had to drive up crazy hills in a stick! We made it, but I ended up freaking myself out so much I started crying. Zac has promised me a shoulder rub for causing me stress.
Then it was on to Olympia to meet with Garth, Zac's prosthetist. We gave him the prescription from Dr. Smith, he took some measurments, and then cast Zac's stump so he can make the socket. On Friday Zac will go in and try out his first test socket!!! He should be in his temporary leg within 2 weeks!!!!!
The other cool thing is that Zac's work is switching insurance at the end of this month. So this temporary leg will be billed on the current insurance and his fancy permanent leg will be billed on the new insurance in a few months. Working the system... =)
From there we drove back to Graham to pick up Keanan. He has such a gross nose because of his cold, but was good for Grandma and Grandpa. He only got whinny when we got there, go figure. We ended up getting home around 9:30pm. What a long day!! I am tired of driving.
Monday, September 14, 2009
Everything is getting much harder for me to do as I become more pregnant. And I have to do a ton by myself. I hurt my hips last night moving the carseat out of Zac's car. Keanan has a cold and is not sleeping well. I had a panic attack last night thinking about having another baby in this crazy mix. I don't know how I am going to do it.
I know that God will give me the strength that I need each day - it is just really hard right now.

We went with 3 other moms from our small group. It was fun to see the animals and watch the rides. The kids all did great. Keanan slept for about 15 minutes in his stroller. He was a crab on the way home and is napping now.
I have two requirements when going to the fair: have strawberry shortcake from the Fisher's scone wagon, and eat a Krusty Pup. Both fulfilled. Yum! So we did it, all for under $20; good day.
PS: We have narrowed down the name choices for baby girl to two. Sorry, we are not sharing them until we decide =)

This morning Keanan ate cheerios with milk for the first time all by himself. Such a big kid! Here is a video:

I am very tired today and just want to take a nap. Unfortunately Keanan slept a bit in the car on the way home and is not tired. yaaayyyyy

Sunday, September 6, 2009
Ann, Brian, and Lucy came for dinner last night. Keanan and Lucy have sooo much fun playing together. Keanan was crazy (jumping off the couch on his head...) and silly. They both went to sleep really quick.
Today we made it to church and Keanan didn't cry in the nursery! He and Esther had fun running around and climbing under tables after the service. Zac's parents and Casey came over for lunch and the rest of the day. It was good to see them after their month long vacation. We had salmon for dinner with rice-a-roni and canned green beans (thanks mom and dad!). Jess made it over after dinner when she got off work. Good times.
Keanan has gotten better about his naps the last 2 days. Yay!! Zac is in the best spirits I have seen him in since the accident (I think he missed his family).
God is so good!
Friday, September 4, 2009
After we left the museum we picked up Zac from work and had a picnic lunch in the park! This was our first family picnic. It was pretty much a perfect morning. =)
Keanan is napping right now, although it took an hour to get him down. He freaks when I leave the room (he is in his toddler bed). So after 10 minutes of him wailing I went back up and we read some more and sang some more songs until he was asleep. Then I can sneak out. This routine is not working for me...
Thursday, September 3, 2009
As of today we only have 1 week until the ultrasound of this new baby! Think pink everyone!
Zac finally got to look at the CRX today. The guy was a scammer and the car was no good. Now Zac has a call in on one in Portland. We must get a car by this weekend because his parents get home on Saturday! He didn't sleep much last night, worried about money. I know that God will supply all of our needs. Please pray for Zac to have peace and for us to be wise with what God has given us.
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
Zac has an appointment with the car guy tomorrow. This guy is young and seems pretty flaky. I hope it works out. It sounds like we might have to sell our Jeep to have enough money to pay for the leg. Sucks.
So...my mood is currently blah.
Tuesday, September 1, 2009
Zac's company is changing insurance carriers which is good for us. The new plan is slightly less sucky in paying for a leg. Zac is in the process of trying to get another insurance plan on top of that to help cover costs. Please keep that in your prayers. With a $50,000 leg every 3-5 years things could get really tough.
Keanan was really good for Auntie Jess tonight while we were at church small group. He was super silly when we got home. Such a goof ball.
At 6:30am Keanan woke up, what the heck! I went up, got him out of his crib and laid down with him on his toddler bed. He went back to sleep! At about 8:15 Zac and I heard him on the stairs. He was just sitting on the landing waiting for someone to get up. =)
My plan was to go to the park today, but it is raining (which is good for my poor plants). So I am not sure what our plan is today. Zac is supposed to be looking (and buying!) an automatic Honda CRX this afternoon, yea! Pray that this goes through.
Here is a good blackmail video of Keanan. It is easier to have him wear these when he has his undies on =) I am such a mean mom. I recorded it with my phone so quality is not that great.

Saturday, August 29, 2009
It was raining this morning (yay!!) and Keanan wanted to go outside, so he wore his raincoat for the first time. I will post a pic later, super cute.
I am off to do some long over-due Pilates.
Friday, August 28, 2009
I was really nervous about Keanan being a terror for the rest of the evening. Then Zac was late getting home. Then Zac needed a nap. Things were not looking good. Keanan was pretty decent however. I, on the other hand, got nothing done today and am totally wiped out! Yea for the weekend.
Zac has been having some "zingers" (his description) in his leg. Some brief intense nerve pain. He is going to try to work 6-8 hour days next week. He has also been shopping for an automatic Honda CRX to commute back and forth to work. This is the car he had when we got married, he loved it. He has some leads, so we will see. We just need to get something that he can drive before Labor Day when his parents get back from vacation and need their car back.
Here is a random Keanan pic, just for fun. Grandma was asking him "how big is Keanan?"
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
Keanan and Ashley had lots of fun playing together. Ashley would tell Keanan what to do, and he would try to wrestle =) Jacob was so cute and gave us lots of smiles.

The appointment with Dr. Smith went great. All the stitches are out and one of the prosthetic guys (John, he's from South Africa and calls me madame) fitted Zac with a stump shrinker. It is basically an elastic sock that goes around the stump. Zac says it feels way better. Zac was also able to "fire" one of the two nerves that they implanted in his hamstring. This was very impressive. They were amazed at how well he is doing and that he is already back to work. He has another appointment in 3 weeks. For this one we have to bring in the leg plans from the prosthetist so that Dr. Smith can review and sign off on them. Then they will start working on the leg.
So striaght from Seattle we drove to Sound Prosthetics in Olympia to meet with Garth and his assistant, Random (that is honestly their names). Zac was happy with them, so that is who we are going to use. Garth is going to start on the leg plans for Dr. Smith. Turns out, the leg that Zac really wants will cost around $40,000 to $50,000 and last from 3-5 years. Insurance only covers $10,000 a year. This is a problem. I think he should get the best, it's his LEG! He is not so sure now. We will see what happens.
After Olympia we drove back to Graham (stopping for Zac to get a haircut) to pick up Keanan from my parent's house. He got to spend the day with Grandma and Lucy. He took a dive off the slide (crazy boy) and Grandma saved him by his sweat pants. He still got some grass stains and a little cut on his head.
After he woke up we drove back to Tumwater for Zac's company picnic. There were so many kids, Keanan had a great time. He especially liked the bubbles. He bit it again on the slide and had a bloody lip, but he didn't seem to mind. Then we drove back home (by we I mean me doing all this driving) and Keanan had a bath and went to bed.
Now Zac and I are hanging out and waiting for our friends Joe, Emily, and their kids to show up. They are up visiting family from Texas and are staying the night with us tonight so we can hang out tomorrow. Yea!
I will try to post some pics of the stump tomorrow. Good night!

A gross part of the day is that we found a praying mantis on his play work bench. Yuck!!! Zac and Keanan thought it was very cool. Here is a pic (not that great, it was with my phone):

After that we found a mexican resturant that, to our surprise, served kids for $.99 on Sundays! Keanan ate a lot of chips and made a nice mess of his dinner. Then we headed back to the Ireland's for a trip on the party barge. It was a fun evening; Keanan came home, took a bath and went to sleep really easy. Zac came upstairs to read him a book and help put him to bed (fist time since the accident). =)
We are both looking forward to the doctor's appointment on Tuesday, break out of the status quo. I think he is just really ready to move on.

Last night (while watching the final Stargate episode) Zac got to feel the baby move. I am so not ready to take care of 2! Hopefully I will be in 4.5 months! I'm sure that Zac will be able to help more (and go up the stairs) by then. God's plan is perfect =)

Yesterday Keanan and I made the trek to Graham (in the Jeep!) to spend the day with Lucy and Grandma. They have so much fun playing there. Grandma has way more toys than we do! It was hot and the Jeep does not have air conditioning so Keanan and I stayed for dinner to let things cool off. Zac had a nice quiet afternoon at home watching Stargate season 10 and napping. His phantom pain was pretty intense last night, the morphine helped and he got the best night of sleep so far.
This morning Keanan and I headed off for Olympia for my appointment with my midwife. They are really kid friendly so Keanan did really well playing with all the toys and books that they have. Everything looks great! Heartbeat was 150 and the baby kicked the doppler a few times. Our ultrasound is scheduled for 3 weeks, September 10th, to find out if this baby is a boy or girl!
Keanan and I came home, had lunch, played for awhile, and now he is napping in his toddler bed again. I fell asleep up there with him for about 15 minutes, guess I need a nap.

Zac did his first half day at work today. It went well and he is getting all caught up. The drive went fine too. He was really tired when he got home and took a nap. I need a nap!
Chris cleaned my kitchen, so I don't have to worry about that tonight. And Greg took the garbage out, all chores done - I think I am going to go to bed early.

In other news, we made it to church again this Sunday. Keanan has started to throw a fit in the nursery when I leave, but I checked on him later and he was okay. When we got home Keanan and I took a nap and Zac watched a movie. Keanan slept for 3 hours (thank you Jesus!), it was awesome.
Zac spent some time out in the sun as well. He saw his reflection in the sliding glass door for the first time since the accident. He said this was depressing. The reality of it all is hitting him more and more. We had a good talk about it. Please keep praying. It is hard.
Our friends the Warner's brought dinner. Keanan had such a good time running around with the boys outside (they have 3). They brought Keanan a toddler bed too! It is so cute up in his big boy room. He climbed around on it and lied down for half a second.
The timing is perfect since I just found out this evening that our friends the Shipman's are going to be up visiting family in Oregon from Texas. They are going to come spend the night with us next week with their two little ones. I am so excited!! We only get to see them every one or two years.
Off to clean the kitchen. That and laundry are my never-ending jobs.

When we got home we had dinner and then Keanan and I played for a bit. He has a runny nose today, which is pretty gross. I hope it doesn't affect his sleeping. The Ireland's came back minus Esther, but with blueberries that they picked today. Keanan went to bed and then we all had icecream with blueberries and got to visit for a good while.
A pretty nice Saturday. I am ready to sleep!
Zac tells me there are about 100 or so people that check this blog everyday. If you are reading this, you are one of them! Thank you for your interest in our lives. I pray that God uses this to encourage you and brighten your day. I know it has been helping me! =)

On the way we stopped at the crash site. There wasn't really a lot to see. The telephone pole was dented and scrapped up a bit. Zac got out and took pictures. He said there was a bloody towel in the ditch, must have been from him. He was pretty somber when he got back in the car.
We showed up at his work to the surprise of some. Everyone was happy to see him and asking when he was going to come back. He thinks he will try to do some half days next week. We will see.
Then we went out to lunch, which Keanan did super well at considering mom did not pack him a sippy cup for milk or a bib. After that it was on to Graham. My grandparents from Arkansas are up and my sister-in-law, Elizabeth, is down from Bellingham. Keanan had a good nap and then got to play with Lucy, his favorite thing in the world.
We all had a good dinner, except for Keanan. Lately he has not been eating anything at dinner time. I don't know how he makes it till morning. Tonight he lived off of brownies, courtesy of Auntie Elizabeth who had strict instructions from Uncle Mathew in Iraq to spoil the babies. Keanan and Lucy took a bath and then we headed for home.
I am tired! I am not used to driving so much. Zac is going to give it a shot this weekend. We'll see how it goes. I am pretty sure baby #2 has been kicking me tonight as well, pretty cool. Good night world.

Zac talked to the insurance company today just to check on everything. He thought that they would be covering 80% of all the costs after his $5000 or so deductible; turns out the deductible is only $1500 and there is an out of pocket limit for us of about $2500 and then they will cover 100% of the costs!!! Yay!!! This was super great news!
Zac also talked to a prosthetist in over the phone in Olympia today that sounds pretty promising. He told him about some fancy knee that Zac has been reading about all day. He seems pretty excited about it.
Christy from Zac's work brought us dinner tonight, as well as some movies =) Off to clean the kitchen.
It was so sweet!!! I had to take a quick pic before Zac ate it (they are cookies!):

Chris, Greg, and Esther came over for a visit; bringing a gift card to Still Salon and Day Spa (my favorite place in the world)! It was a nice visit but short. We will catch up more later =)
My Grandma and Papa came with chicken dinner and other lovely things! Zac and I are going to enjoy some pie and ice cream in a minute! It was nice to visit with them. Grandma was so cute and brought her on dishes for us to use and then packed them all up to take home to wash so I wouldn't have to =)
After they left we got to Skype with Keanan and my mom. He is so cute on the video and was kissing us goodnight through the computer. I miss him =( but the day was nice and quiet. Mom is bringing him home tomorrow morning. Lucy will be with her as well so they can stay and play for awhile.
So about 8pm I had a surge of energy and cleaned the bathrooms, mopped the kitchen and dinning room, and vacuumed downstairs (well, the roomba vacuumed, but whatever). Yay, semi-clean house! Off to eat pie with Zac. (He had a good day, by the way. Pain is less all the time.)
It was also weird waking up to a quiet house. We have never spent the night in our own house without Keanan since he was born. I am excited to see him, probably tonight.

This morning we left and dropped Keanan off at my parents (thank you!!!) where he is spending the night. We then drove up to Harborview and Zac finally got an appointment on the way. We arrived just in time for the amputee support group. This was good, but not worth driving from Yelm for all on it's own. If we are up for an appointment or something we will go again. There were about 15 other amputees of varying natures. They were sharing their struggles and joys of the week. Interesting.
Zac's appointment was at 1pm, but they were running late. So we finally saw Dr. Smith at 2. Everything is looking great with the stump. Zac got the staples out (but not the stiches yet) and got to talk with two different prosthetist. This was very interesting, but both of them are centered in Seattle. We hope to find someone in Olympia to work with. Zac is scheduled to meet with Dr. Smith in 2 weeks to get all the stiches out and then in 2 more weeks to start the prosthetics process.
So we left Seattle at about 3:30, stopped for coffee and headed straight to our church small group. It was so good to be with our friends and the two new babies were there (1 month old and 1 week old). It is so quiet in our house tonight without Keanan, I miss him. But I also need to get some good sleep.
